Cellphone cases come in various designs and funky options nowadays, but there is one category you should avoid if you want to stay out of trouble.
We are talking of gun-shaped cases, which have made their way into some local markets and caused consternation among law enforcement officials.
Joe Chan Cho-kwong, chairman of Junior Police Officers Association, has warned that it is not a good idea for anyone to be carrying a mobile phone case that looks like a gun.
If a person has an object that looks like a firearm tucked into a waistband or a pocket, it could be mistaken for the real thing and cause alarm, the officer pointed out.
It is natural that the police will stop and search an individual if they see anything suspicious, Chan told Headline Daily.
People may complain that the police are overreacting, but as far as the officers are concerned it is their duty to ensure public safety, he said, advising people not to carry any objects that look like firearms.
The comments came as pistol-shaped handset cases have caught the fancy of some consumers who wish to stand out from the crowd.
When a user puts a newly-decorated smartphone into his pocket, the phone could be hidden from view but the fake pistol handle could be jutting out.
From a distance others could easily assume it is a deadly weapon.
As for the police, they would be compelled to carry out a search.
Gun-shaped handset cases are inexpensive and can be easily ordered online. On China’s TaoBao platform, a black-colored pistol case can be had for as little as 20 yuan.
There are various models designed for different brands of handsets, including iPhones.
