Father saves boy, 6, from attack by screwdriver-wielding man

A man saved his 6-year-old son from an attacker who grabbed the boy and pointed a screwdriver at his temple, Apple Daily reported Wednesday.

The 40-year-old suspect, surnamed Chow, was allegedly seen brandishing a screwdriver shortly after midnight Tuesday while on a double-decker bus traveling along Ma Tau Wai Road in To Kwa Wan.

Fellow passengers complained to the bus driver, who stopped the vehicle and called police.

Chow, who was half naked, got off the bus and ran away.

A 34-year-old hairdresser, surnamed Wong, was walking with his elder son along Ma Tau Wai Road when Chow, who appeared to be insane, rushed at them and grabbed the boy.

Without a second thought, Wong tackled the suspect and took away the screwdriver.

Two passersby came to Wong’s help. Together, they subdued Chow before police arrived and arrested him,

Wong and his son, whose arm was scratched by the screwdriver during the struggle, were sent to hospital with minor injuries.

Police are investigating whether Chow was acting under the influence of drugs.
