Man held after ‘tortured’ boars are found dead near reservoir

A toy factory worker has been arrested on suspicion of animal abuse after two wild boars were found dead near the Kowloon reservoir.

The man, 31, was held by the police, pending further investigation.

The animals were found dead in Kam Shan Country Park Sunday night, public broadcaster RTHK reports.

Sham Shui Po police inspector Wong Ka-wai said the animals had been dead for some time when the police arrived.

One of them, estimated to be one-year-old, had been entangled in a nylon net while the other had an open wound in the head, according to a witness.

The witness said he saw three men wave a torchlight and flee from the scene after he saw them.

Later, the witness said he found the dead boars where the men had been.

Police found no evidence at the scene but said they are looking for two other suspects.

Weapons and hunting equipment are banned from country parks.

Offenders are liable to a HK$2,000 (US$258) fine and three months’ imprisonment.
