Woman blocks CCTV cameras to hide illegal U-turn – in vain

It was almost the perfect crime.

A motorist’s mother covered up two closed-circuit television cameras to prevent them from bearing witness to her son’s wrongdoing.

The driver decided to perform an illegal U-turn on the G25 expressway in Lishui, Zhejiang province, Apple Daily reported Friday.

The pair found themselves heading in the wrong direction on the expressway at around 12:33 p.m. Wednesday but feared they would be penalized for making a U-turn if caught on camera.

The woman covered up the two CCTV cameras at the roadside nearby with a jacket and another piece of clothing.

The footage shows that after about three minutes, the clothing was removed and the vehicle had already turned around.

However, the pair were unaware that their actions were caught on another CCTV camera down the road.

Traffic police have identified the car and driver using the CCTV footage.

The driver was fined 200 yuan (US$31.50), and 12 points were deducted from his license.

In mainland China, a clean driving licence has 12 points.
