Two managers of a company that was the only recruitment agency in Hong Kong permitted to bring in maids from Myanmar have been fined for violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance.
Law Yiu-keung, owner of Golden Mind Employment Agency Ltd., which shut down in April, and manager Lam Suk-ling, 56, pleaded guilty at Tsuen Wan Magistrates’ Court Tuesday, Apple Daily reported.
Law was fined HK$8,000, and Lam was fined HK$4,000.
Both were ordered to make a total of HK$10,000 in compensation to the complainant.
The complainant contacted Lam over the phone in June last year, asking her to introduce a Myanmarese domestic helper.
She specified that the maid should have had no prior work experience in Hong Kong.
The client paid a middleman’s fee of HK$8,960 to the company after it found her a domestic helper.
However, she later found out that the maid had worked in Hong Kong for four days.
Lam admitted that fact to the client only in August last year.
