Lawmakers blame security loopholes for filth attack

Hong Kong lawmakers are calling for tighter security after suspected human or animal feces was found underneath a conference room table in the Legislative Council building.

Kenneth Leung, who represents the accountancy sector, brushed against the waste matter hidden under the table top and had his jeans stained, Ming Pao Daily reports.

The incident happened on Saturday during a hearing of the public accounts committee.

Leung changed seats and finished the meeting while his soiled clothing was sent to a laboratory for tests.

Legco President Jasper Tsang called it “very weird” but held off making a police report, pending the results.

Lawmakers said the incident highlighted a serious security breach in the Legco building.

Although it might not have been directed at a particular target, they said it calls for tighter security measures.

The Legco secretariat said it found nothing unusual in security camera footage of the premises.

It said it will continue to investigate.
