Wartime bombs unearthed in Tseung Kwan O village

Two wartime bombs were found in a village in Tseung Kwan O on Monday, prompting the evacuation of residents in the area.

Workers at a slope project in Ma Yau Tong Village called the police after unearthing the bombs at around 2 p.m., Ming Pao Daily reported.

Responding police officers asked villagers to evacuate and locked down the neighborhood, which is less than 20 meters away from the residences.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau identified two wartime bombs. One was detonated at around 5 p.m., but the other one was to be handled at another time.

A villager surnamed Lee said police officers knocked on their doors at around 3 p.m. and asked them to leave their houses while experts prepared to detonate the explosives.

Lee said she was not afraid of the bombs, adding that this was not the first time wartime explosives were found in the village.
