A senior police officer has been sentenced to 20 months in jail for indecent assault and common assault on his daughter, Apple Daily reported Thursday.
A Fanling magistrate’s court heard earlier that the 42-year-old officer, a father of two, touched his daughter’s chest and private parts on three occasions while bathing her between May and September 2013 when she was six years old.
He handcuffed her at one point and pointed a gun at her head, the court was told.
A social worker reported the case to police in March last year.
Defence lawyer Eric Kwok Tung-ming said Wednesday the defendant’s psychological assessment was normal and that there was a low chance he would repeat the offences.
Kwok said the officer will be lodging an appeal, but the court denied him bail.
Slamming the defendant for breaching his children’s trust in him, Magistrate Raymond Wong Kwok-fai said the sentence had taken into account the fact that the officer had a good record in his 20 years with the force and had been awarded a certificate of commendation.
