A Kwai Chung resident was puzzled soon after midnight Monday when a thief prodded his back with a hard object and ordered him to take off his clothes.
The victim, surnamed Ng, who lives in Kwai Luen Estate, did as he was told, Headline Daily reported Tuesday.
Ng was down to his underwear when the thief said “stop”. He then took Ng’s clothes and ran away.
When Ng returned to his flat, he called police.
Shortly afterward, he noticed smoke coming from the staircase outside.
It turned out that his T-shirt and jeans, which the thief had taken, were on fire.
Firefighters arrived and put out the fire.
Police are regarding it as a case of theft and arson.
The same day, at about 1 p.m., an iron can wrapped in newspapers was found on fire near the garbage disposal area on the 14th floor of the same building.
Police are investigating to find out if the two fires were related.
