MTR Corp. staff rescued a mixed-breed dog from being crushed by an oncoming train at the West Rail’s Kam Sheung Road station on Monday night, news website hk01.com reported on Tuesday, citing an online post from Animal Post.
Animal Post said on its Facebook account the mongrel was not moving when station personnel saw it lying on the tracks at 11:45 p.m.
An MTRC spokesperson said an oncoming train was put on alert and ordered to enter the station at a slow speed.
The train came to a sharp stop when the operator spotted the dog on the railroad tracks.
MTRC staff carried the dog and put it on the platform.
Representatives of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals came and took the dog away for treatment.
The suspended train service resumed at around 12:15 a.m.
In 2014, a mongrel wandered onto the rail tracks at Fanling Station and was run over by a train after it failed to climb back to the platform.
The incident raised an uproar with people assailing the MTR management for failing to stop the train and save the dog.
The rail operator apologized for the incident.
