Indonesian maid fired after getting pregnant sues employers

An Indonesian domestic helper who was fired after getting pregnant is suing her former employers for breach of contract.

Waliyah, 30, is also accusing the couple, now divorced, of sex discrimination, news website hk01.com. reports, citing court documents.

She is seeking compensation in district court from the spouses.

In 2013, the couple took Waliyah’s urine samples for tests after suspecting her of being pregnant, the court heard.

She was fired that year after the results came back positive.

Waliyah, who was hired in 2012, was asked to leave the couple’s Kwun Tong flat before her one-month notice was up, in contravention of her employment contract, her lawyer said.

She gave birth three months later and put the baby up for adoption. She found a new job shortly after, according to Apple Daily.

The judge adjourned the case to May 9 to give the couple a chance to appear together.
