Dog in hit-and-run drama doing fine after emergency surgery

A dog injured in a hit-and-run, whose heartbreaking story inspired offers of help and encouragement from netizens, is in stable condition after emergency surgery.

The dog is under observation in a clinic run by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and will continue to receive treatment, news website thestandnews.com reports.

In a Facebook post, SPCA thanked netizens on behalf of the dog owner for their concern after an outpouring of support including offers to pay for the dog’s medical expenses and words of encouragement.

SPCA said the bills will be covered by a fund for needy dog owners.

The female mongrel was found bleeding under a staircase in a Tuen Mun playground after being hit by a truck on Sunday.

Photos of the dog curled up under a blanket and its sad story went viral on the internet, melting hearts and inspiring pet lovers into action.

Some offered to pay for its hospitalization while others sent well wishes.
