Woman tags boyfriend as mastermind in Tsuen Wan murder

The girlfriend of the suspected mastermind in the concrete box murder case in Tsuen Wan will turn witness against him and the other suspects.

The 18-year-old woman surnamed Ho turned herself in at a police station in Taipei’s Banqiao District on Monday, and led police to the arrest of the three other suspects who fled to Taiwan to escape justice, Apple Daily reports.

Ho is said to be the girlfriend of the suspected mastermind, a 27-year-old man surnamed Tsang.

She told Taiwan police she had witnessed the murder of a 28-year-old man surnamed Cheung whose body was later placed in a slab of concrete in a unit of an industrial building in Tsuen Wan in early March.

Ho said she had wanted to hide at home but was instead taken to Taiwan by her boyfriend.

She said she was afraid she might become the next victim and chose to surrender to police to assist in the investigation.

Taiwan police arrested the three male suspects outside their rented apartment around 10 a.m. on Monday.

To ensure her safety, she was flown separately to Hong Kong on Monday afternoon and was handed over to Hong Kong police at the boarding gate.

The three other suspects were set to be deported on Tuesday. Hong Kong police sent people to Taiwan to accompany the suspects.

Back in Taipei, neighbors of the four suspects said the four were acting strangely and often quarreled at night.

Police who raided the three-bedroom apartment found several books on mind reading, hypnotism and criminal psychology.

Apart from the four suspects, five other people who had been arrested in Hong Kong in connection with the case have been released on bail.

Meanwhile, the cause of death of the victim, surnamed Cheung, was confirmed to be suffocation.

Initial investigation showed that Cheung lent Tsang over a million Hong Kong dollars, but the latter lost all of it in the stock market.

Cheung was reportedly killed when he went to the Tsuen Wan flat rented by Tsang to collect the debt.

Security cameras at the industrial building yielded footage of the four suspects going upstairs with the victim, and another man pushing a trolley of concrete into the flat later.
