An elderly woman was killed after she was knocked down and dragged by a public bus in Cheung Sha Wan on Monday.
The 81-year-old victim, surnamed Lee, was dragged by the vehicle more than 200 meters before the driver found her under the bus after arriving at the bus terminal, Apple Daily reports.
Lee had been doing volunteer work at the Caritas Community Center in Sham Shui Po, and she went there everyday by bus. She lived with her sons and grandchildren at Lei Cheng Uk Estate in Cheung Sha Wan.
The 56-year-old driver, surnamed Chan, was arrested for dangerous driving. He has been a driver for Kowloon Motor Bus for 22 years.
Chan said he wanted to take the empty bus back to the So Uk Bus Terminal in Cheung Sha Wan, but since the queue of returning buses was long, he decided to park the vehicle at the bus station on Kwong Lee Road at around 10:15 a.m.
After about 45 minutes, Chan started the engine and drove the vehicle back to the terminal.
But when he arrived at the terminal, he heard sounds underneath the vehicle.
Chan looked under the bus and was shocked to see a woman lying there.
He immediately called the police. Lee was unconscious when she was taken to the Caritas Medical Center, where she was later certified dead.
