HKU in top 50 in world university rankings

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has found a place in the top 50 in a global ranking of the world’s most prestigious universities.

HKU leapt to the 45th position in the latest Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings, sharing the rank jointly with Seoul National University.

In the previous survey last year, HKU was in the 51-60 band, with no specific rank.

Times Higher Education, in its annual surveys, awards precise ranks to only the top 50 universities.

Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology made it to the top 80 institutions, with both the universities placed in the 71-80 group.

University of Tokyo, which secured a 12th rank overall, was identified as the top institution in Asia.

China’s Tsinghua University and Peking University, at No. 18 and No. 21 overall, rounded up the top three in the region.

Asia had 18 institutions in the top 100 list, up from 10 in the previous survey last year.
