Beijing police escort passengers off plane after fight

Airport police boarded a plane set to take off from Beijing after a fight broke out inside the cabin.

Five passengers were arrested and the flight to Xian departed five hours behind schedule, the Beijing Morning Post reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a female passenger verbally abused a flight attendant after learning the flight, already delayed several hours, still could not take off.

When other passengers tried to intervene, she turned on them, triggering an argument that escalated into physical violence, according to the report.

Hainan Airlines flight HU7737 had been scheduled to take off from Beijing airport at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday.

The plane departed at 3 a.m. Sunday for the 90-minute flight to Xian.

Last week, news website China.com.cn reported that the captain of another Hainan Airlines plane called the police after two male passengers refused to pay for first-class upgrades from economy and allegedly abused flight attendants.

The two defied orders by the captain to return to their seats, holding up the Taiyuan-Chongqing flight almost two hours until police arrived.
