Emirates tops airline rankings, Cathay slips to fourth

Emirates has been named the world’s best airline for 2016 by aviation industry website Skytrax.

The award, based on a survey of millions of airline passengers, was given at the Skytrax World Airline Awards ceremony at the Farnborough International Airshow in England on Tuesday, CNN reports.

Cathay Pacific slipped to No. 4, from third place last year. It was the top pick in 2014.

Qatar Airways was second, followed by Singapore Airlines.

“The Middle East airlines have continued to dominate,” CNN quoted Skytrax chief executive Edward Plaisted as saying.

“Virgin America continues dominating on the customer side in North America. Turkish Airlines is a big favorite.”

ANA All Nippon Airways was fifth, followed by Etihad Airways, Turkish Airlines, EVA Air, Qantas Airways and Lufthansa.

Air New Zealand won two awards, for the best premium economy cabin and premium economy seat.
