Chinese woman hailed for calling out bad behavior by compatriots

A Chinese tour guide is being hailed for standing up to her compatriots in a Thai beach resort, calling them out for unruly behavior.

The woman, who identified herself on social media as Bin Bin Ji, challenged Chinese tourists in the Thai beach resort of Phuket who wanted to take away souvenirs — sand, stone, even a piece of log, am730 reports.

The Chinese beachgoers said they have always brought back something from any place they visited.

Ji posted a video on Facebook in which she is shown telling her compatriots that they’re breaking the law.

Taking sand from Thailand’s beaches is prohibited.

In the three-minute clip, Ji says she is tired of seeing Chinese tourists break the rules wherever they go.

She mentions a couple from Jiangsu province who argued with their tour guide after he tried to stop them from taking a log from Phuket’s Lover’s Beach.

Ji later said she walked up to the guide and told him to let the tourists do what they wanted and report them to the police.

The couple dropped the idea, she said.

Ji also related an incident in which she singled out a Chinese mother who defended her son after he took a drink from a tourist without permission.

At the end of the clip, Ji is heard telling the tourists: “Shame on you. How come there are more and more Chinese people like you?”

Netizens in Thailand and in mainland China praised Ji, calling her a rare breed among Chinese tourists who have been accused of bad behavior overseas.
