Apple Inc. on Wednesday unveiled iPhone 7 and 7 Plus along with a set of new wireless headphones called AirPods and the next generation of the firm’s smartwatch.
The new iPhones come with high-resolution cameras, a force-sensitive “home” button and water and dust resistance capabilities, among other features.
As widely predicted, Apple has removed the traditional headphone jack from the new handsets, with people now required to use earbuds that connect through the phones’ charging port.
iPhone 7 will have one 12-megapixel camera, while ‘Plus’ edition will feature two cameras, including a telephoto lens.
The iPhone 7 will start at US$649, the same as the previous model, but will offer twice the minimum amount of storage, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The larger-screen 7 Plus model begins at US$769.
Apple will start taking preorders Friday in more than two dozen markets, including Hong Kong and China. Sales will begin on Sept. 16.
Meanwhile, the US tech giant also showed off a new game based on the Super Mario videogame character and its next-generation smartwatch, which will include a wrist-top version of the hit mobile game Pokémon Go, the Journal said.
The product is expected to come out in time for the holidays.
Apple’s second-generation smartwatch, which it called Apple Watch Series 2, functions essentially the same as the original but has added features such as water resistance, a built-in global-positioning system and the Pokémon Go app.
Among other new products, the company unveiled a pair of wireless headphones, called AirPods.
The new headphones, which can be synced with various Apple devices, will enable five hours of listening time on one charge. They will be available for US$159, beginning in late October.
