Filipino musician jailed for 20 months for indecent assault

A Filipino musician working at Hong Kong Disneyland was sentenced to 20 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault.

Edwin Santos Esguerra, 53, said he was drunk when he committed the offense against an Indonesian domestic helper inside an apartment in Tung Chung in May, adding that he was full of remorse, Sing Tao Daily reports.

The married, 33-year-old victim was working for an employer who lived downstairs from Esguerra’s flat.

The court heard that in the afternoon of May 3, Esguerra went to the helper’s flat after her employer sought his help to fix a broken door handle, Ming Pao Daily reported.

After learning that the helper was alone, Esguerra forced his way into the flat and started kissing her inside her employer’s bedroom, and followed her to the kitchen and the living room, touching parts of her body.

The helper finally managed to break away and rushed outside the flat to call for help.

District Judge Kwok Wai-kin said Esguerra’s behavior was close to rape and the nature of the case was serious because it happened at the victim’s place of residence and work.
