Guangdong woman arrested for running motorbike over child’s feet

A 50-year-old woman from Yangjiang city in Guangdong province was accused of maltreating her six-year-old stepgranddaughter after she was caught on video running the front wheel of her motorcycle over the child’s feet.

The local police later confirmed that the woman was taken in for questioning, Sing Tao Daily reports.

In the 40-second video, which has gone viral on social media in the mainland, the child is seen being dragged on the floor by a playmate, apparently to escape the wrath of the woman, who is riding a motor bike together with a baby boy.

The woman is scolding the child, who is crying but cannot move by herself apparently because of unbearable pain, Apple Daily reported.

According to mainland news website cankaoxiaoxi.com, the woman was trying to scare the girl with the motorcycle but the wheel rolled on the latter’s feet by accident.

Netizens said the child’s father is in jail while her mother has left the family. The child is now living with her grandfather, who is married to the woman on the video.

Other sources said the child is often heard crying in the middle of the night, and is seen to have bruises and scars on her limbs.

It is also said that the girl is not allowed to use the heater when taking showers, even during winter.

Other reports said the child’s grandfather appears to be indifferent to the abuses being committed against his granddaughter, and that the woman sometimes even refuse to let the child eat.

The child has been taken to a hospital for examination, and initial findings showed that she did not sustain any serious injuries, Apple Daily said.

The girl rarely talks, probably a result of her prolonged abuse, and could not even remember her own name, the report said.
