Business as usual after Wong Tai Sin Temple fire

Fire hit Wong Tai Sin Temple on Thursday but its operations are not expected to be affected.

Believers can still make their offerings for the coming new year there at midnight on Friday, the eve of the Year of the Rooster, Sing Tao Daily reports.

The incident occurred at 6 p.m. when a store room in the century-old Taoist temple caught fire.

About 30 staff were evacuated by responding firemen and policemen. There were no worshippers at the time as it was past opening hours.

It took firemen about an hour to put out the blaze. No casualties were reported.

Investigators said the fire might have been caused by overheated plastic ignited by hot incense ashes blown into the room by the wind.

They found nothing suspicious.

A spokesman for Sik Sik Yuen, operator of the temple, told Apple Daily there was no major damage and that the temple will be open the whole night on Friday as scheduled.
