Police in Jiyuan city in Henan province are used to all sorts of surprises but a busload of characters from a famous Chinese opera was way over the top.
Still, the unexpected discovery did not prevent them from performing their duties — they stopped the vehicle, checked the driver and investigated what the act was all about.
It turns out that the bus driver and his passengers were all performers traveling to a temple fair, Sing Tao Daily reports.
In order to save time, they decided to put on their costumes and make-up, not expecting an encounter with the highway police.
The driver was “Monkey King” and his passengers included “Monk Tang”, “Pisgy”, “Monk Sha” and a gaggle of “demons”.
“Monkey King” was asked to produce his driving license and remove his mask to check his identity before he was let off with a warning.
And the group rode on without having to change to normal clothing.
The police were apparently convinced the cast of characters from Journey To The West were no threat to public safety.
