ViuTV will start airing an English channel called ViuTVsix on March 31, a year after the television station was officially launched, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.
ViuTV said its new English station, which will be broadcast on channel 96, will bring drama series from HBO Original to Hong Kong viewers.
The channel will bring in favorites such as Entourage, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire and feature news programs from various wire agencies such as Reuters, CNN and NHK World.
The channel will offer content from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. the next day every day.
One of the highlights is the cooperation between ViuTV and HBO, allowing the channel to be the first TV station in Hong Kong to broadcast the popular HBO series for free.
The channel will air US TV show 20/20 on Sundays and will broadcast for the first time ever Dog TV, a show for pets and their owners, on weekends.
Lo Ting-fai, general manager of HK Television Entertainment, said the channel will first test the waters with more overseas TV series to see how local audiences respond.
Their Cantonese channel will also adjust the broadcast schedule to play self-produced TV shows five days in a row, Sing Tao Daily reports.
Also, Lo said the channel will create at least 12 to 15 productions in the coming year, increasing their own programming to more than 2,700 hours a year.
The station will buy 1,400 hours of content from overseas.
