Two killed, nine injured in Shenzhen supermarket knife attack

At least two people were killed and nine others injured in a knife attack at a Walmart supermarket in Shenzhen’s Baoan district on Sunday night, the Hong Kong Economic Journal reports.

According to the Southern Metropolis Daily, police arrested a 30-year-old suspect, surnamed Jiang, from Chongqing. Police were still investigating what his motives were.

Jiang is said to have started a fire on the third floor of the building before starting his attack on random customers on the second floor.

Police were searching for possible accomplices. Witnesses said they had seen several other knife-wielding men escaping the scene, according to Apple Daily.

The injured were taken to the Bao’an Shenzhen Central Hospital and the Shenzhen Hengsheng Hospital for treatment.
