Financial chief earmarks HK$934 million to boost tourism
Apart from handing out HK$5,000 spending e-coupons to Hongkongers to stimulate local spending, the revival of tourism, also hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, is another key issue financial chief Paul Chan was trying to address in his 2021-22 budget released yesterday.
The government will earmark a total of HK$934 million to boost tourism. Out of which HK$169 million goes to promoting local cultural, heritage and creative tourism projects.
“The purpose is to offer leisure and travel experience with rich historical and cultural elements to both locals and visitors,” Chan explained.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Tourism Board will get HK$765 million for rolling out promotional offers, particularly when the pandemic situation eases.
The government is also considering to revive local group tours provided that public health can be safeguarded.
Chan said efforts to explore the possibility of Air Travel Bubble arrangement with suitable places will continue.
